Charlotte Maxwell-Jones

Dr. Maxwell-Jones has worked in Afghanistan since 2010 and has over 15 years of experience conducting field research in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. She earned her PhD in Classical Art and Archaeology from the University of Michigan in 2015 with a thesis focused on Achaemenid, Hellenistic, and Kushan archaeology and economic and cultural exchange in the Central Asian region covering the span of just over a millennium. She is based in Kabul and has worked with local and international organizations conducting research and programming in culture, economic development, capacity building, gender, and social research. Her research at Heart of Asia Society aims to incorporate the diverse experiences and perspectives of Afghans from all sectors and levels of society to produce inclusive, valuable studies. She has also founded and operates a local NGO.
